BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD

Don’t expect “the government” to save the day.  It’s up to you.  Each of us must act to ensure future generations enjoy a future worth having.  Here’s a beginner’s list of what you should do:

1.      Support the Florida Hometown Democracy amendment.

2.      Get to know your neighbors.  Community is not something you find, it is something you do.

3.      Take the time to learn how your elected officials vote on issues that affect Florida’s future.  Let them know that you know and that you care how they vote.  Don’t believe the propaganda most politicians claim—they all say they care about the future, but their voting records reveal otherwise.

4.      Vote for a future worth having.  Every time you get in the voting booth, think about your great, great, great grandchildren and what kind of planet you want them to enjoy.

5.      Plant your yard with Florida natives.  The birds, the bees, and the butterflies will love you for it.  You won’t have to do as much yard work or water as much either.

6.      Stop dumping pesticides and chemical fertilizers onto your yard.  All that poison ends up in our water supply.  Do you really want your kids playing on toxic lawns?  Clean water, healthy soil, and healthy, happy kids are much more important than a perfect, deadly lawn.

7.      Buy your next home in an established neighborhood.  Don’t be part of sprawl.

8.      Use biodegradable, nontoxic cleaning and paper products.  They don’t cost anymore than the bad stuff, they work just as well as the bad stuff and they won’t make you or the planet sick.  Check out www.realgoods.com

9.      Go organic in the kitchen.  It’s better for you and the planet.

10.Use low flow water fixtures.

11.  Buy a fuel-efficient car.  Why subsidize terrorists and global warming?  A nationwide increase of 3 miles per gallon in fuel economy saves all the oil we import from the Middle East.  Get out of that Selfish Un-American Vehicle.

12.Get out of your car and walk or ride your bike.  You’ll be helping yourself and Mother Nature.

13.Go solar on your house.  You can get off FPL’s grid and save money.  Check out www.realgoods.com

14. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.  Do you really need all that crap you keep buying?  Is it really making you more happy?

15.Use compact florescent lights and rechargeable batteries.  Every little bit helps.

If you aren’t part of the solution,

You’re part of the problem.
